Yellow River Vineyards Celebrates Grand Opening

Yellow River Vineyards is open for wine tasting at their new Wine Bar in downtown Crestview, Florida. The winery specializes in fruit wines made from locally grown fruit.

A little more than a year after setting up their Florida wine making business, Nathan and Crystal Boyles celebrated the grand opening of their downtown Crestview Wine Bar with live music, food, and a sampling of their locally made wines. Located at 212 N. Main Street, next door to Nathan’s law office, the wine bar promises to be another step forward in the Crestview downtown revitalization effort.

What began as a hobby and a simple enjoyment of wine soon grew into an earnest desire to make wines that they could share with their friends and family. “We aren’t wine snobs,” says Nathan. “We want to make affordable wine for the rest of us.”

Their wine journey has taken them to wineries all over the southeast and has included wine tasting, research, and a lot of tinkering. Sometimes, opportunities have fallen in their laps, as with the wreck of a semi carrying fresh plums to market. They purchased the remains of the shipment and the result was their first batch of A Plum Shame wine.

Little Beau Blueberry wine was named for their son Beau, who was born during the bottling of their first vintage of blueberry wine. Their other wines include Feelin’ Peachy and Summer Crush Strawberry wine. All wines are premium table wines meant to be consumed with a meal.

The tiny wine bar is in response to the need for a retail outlet. It is nestled at one end of an inviting courtyard with a fountain and outside tables and includes storage for wine bottles, a couple of bar stools, a bar, and room for retail items. Wine Bar manager Jeanie Harris is on hand Wednesday through Saturday to pour wine for wine tasting and answer questions. The winery offers tastings, bottle sales, gift baskets, and custom labeling.

The grand opening was attended by friends, family, business associates, and local officials who lined up to sample the Yellow River Vineyards wines, nibble morsels from the hors d’oeuvres table, and purchase bottles of wine. The only one not having fun was the weather, which decided to cloud over and dump rain on the whole affair. However, spirits were not dampened as people crowded into the Wine Bar to buy a bottle of their favorite wine to take home.

Guests at the grand opening enjoyed several wines made by Yellow River Vineyards.

Sadly Yellow River Vineyards closed its doors in 2016, but you can read their story and others in the Northwest Florida Wine Tour, available at the wineries, local bookstores, and on Amazon.com.
