Free Things to do in Pensacola

If you're on a budget, never fear. There are free things to do in Pensacola to amuse the kids and keep grown-ups interested as well. In addition to museums and attractions, there are lots of parks, and just walking downtown is both an entertaining and educational experience.

National Naval Aviation Museum - Move over Maverick, this is the place for kids of all ages to be Top Gun! Planes, space capsules, and some terrific exhibits will keep you going for hours. This place is huge! For extra fun, and a free air show, plan to be there when the Blue Angels are practicing. They often sign autographs when they’re finished.

My granddaughter had fun pretending she was on the moon at the National Naval Aviation Museum.

Some of our things to do in Pensacola aren't exactly IN the city. Travel a few miles outside of town to Milton for the next two.

Blackwater Heritage Trail - This 10-mile paved hiking and biking trail that was once part of the railroad starts about half a mile east of the West Florida Railroad Museum on Old U. S. 90 and ends at Whiting Field. Take you bikes, snacks and water, or a full blown portable picnic.

West Florida Railroad Museum - Put on your engineer’s cap and ride the rails. There are lots of railroad artifacts and memorabilia to browse, and on Saturday mornings, members of the Emerald Coast Garden Railway Club bring in their model trains to run on the garden tracks behind the museum.

The train at the West Florida Railroad Museum can be
rented for parties.

Bands on the Beach - Pensacola Beach rocks every Tuesday evening 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. April through October. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a variety of musical styles at the Gulfside Pavilion.

Evenings in Old Seville Square - Seville Square park at Government and Alcaniz Streets is the place for a free concert every Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. May through August. From big band to jazz and, from Broadway to modern dance, every week is a different performance. Bring your lawn chairs or spread a blanket and enjoy.

Panhandle Butterfly House - Located at the foot of the bridge on U. S. Highway 98 in Navarre,a few miles east of Pensacola, this is the place to learn about butterflies, what they eat, and their strange life cycle.

Children of all ages enjoy the Panhandle Butterfly House.
