Northwest Florida Restaurants

If you’re craving seafood, barbecue, or down home cooking, Northwest Florida restaurants can fill the bill. In addition to the fresh catch of the day, the region offers a wide variety of ethnic cuisine, southern favorites, and locally grown produce. Here, too, you’ll find everything from white tablecloth dining to peel and eat shrimp shacks and everything in between.

Let’s start with fish. The waters of the Gulf of Mexico are teeming with grouper, cobia, red snapper, trigger fish, amberjack, and yellowfin tuna, to name just a few. Northwest Florida restaurants pride themselves in their ability to serve fish caught that day and in some cases delivered right to their door on the boat.

Apalachicola oysters, some of the finest in the world, are best eaten raw on the half shell right out of the bay, according to oyster purists. During scallop season you can eat your fill of scallops from Port St. Joe to Pensacola. Pan seared with a light Pino Grigio works for me.

If it’s barbecue you want or fresh collard greens and cornbread cooked to perfection, you’ll find that here too. Traditionally “old South” by nature, the region is as famous for pulled pork as it is for seafood. Travel the blue roads and find some of the best country diners around.

You’ll also find great Italian, Greek, Cajun, Chinese, and Mexican restaurants as well as little wine bars and French bistros. Sizzling steakhouses and themed eateries are numerous as are cafés, bakeries, and sandwich shops. Many places offer gulf, harbor or bay views that are especially favored by the sunset watching crowd. So, rest assured, with so many types of food and preparation styles to choose from, you’ll never go hungry.

The Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort offers a variety of places to eat, both on and off the water. You can chow down on seafood, steaks, pasta, and pizza, and even enjoy some Cajun cuisine in a New Orleans style atmosphere. Here's something to keep in mind, if you're traveling with your pet, there are many pet friendly places to eat in the region. Dog friendly restaurants in Destin, for instance, will serve Fido a bowl of cool water and treats while you both enjoy the view.
