Exploring Northwest Florida
Looking for dog friendly restaurants in Destin? Most places to eat won’t let you bring Fido in, but you can’t leave him in the car. What do you do?
If you're visiting the Destin area, there are a number of places that are pet friendly, where dogs can lap up a cool bowl of water and chomp some biscuits while you enjoy your own beverage and snack. Some of these eateries are in locations on their own and some are located within Destin shopping venues.
Always check with a restaurant first, but most seafood houses and places along the beach have outdoor tables where you can sit with your furry friend. Always remember to clean up after your pet and keep things nice for the next guests.
Dewey Destin Seafood, 9 Calhoun Avenue in Destin, 850-837-7575, is one of a few Destin restaurants owned and operated by one of the town’s original founding families. There are two locations, one on the Destin harbor and one overlooking East Pass and the famous “crab island.” Pets are welcome at the crab island location. It has a dog friendly outdoor seating area and a walk-up window for takeout dining.
Across U. S. Highway 98 is the enormous Emerald Grande resort and HarborWalk Village, located on at the foot of the Destin bridge. HarborWalk offers many unique shops and is pet friendly with some dog friendly restaurants that will serve Fido a bowl of water and treats. Dogs can eat on the deck at Harry T’s Lighthouse and outside at any of the other HarborWalk restaurants. There’s even a grassy area for dog walking, but please bring your own bags to clean up.
Travel east on Highway 98 to find Destin Commons, at the corner of U. S. Highway 98 and Highway 293. It has some great Destin shopping and dining, with many well-known retailers and locally owned specialty stores, including Bark Avenue, an upscale gift and accessories shop for the pampered pooch. Leashed pets are welcome and there are some doggy events throughout the year, like the Doggy Fashion Show at Christmas. Dogs are also welcome to eat outside at Panera Bread Company.

Bruster’s is fun for both dogs and their people and features frozen treats made fresh on the premises and hand-dipped into cones and sundaes. Bruster’s has all your favorite ice cream flavors (as well as some creative new ones) and makes a free sundae with dog biscuits crumbled on top for their furry customers.
Further east on Highway 98, at 9300 Emerald Coast Parkway, West (U. S. Highway 98) is the 2400-acre Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. Within the resort lies the Village of Baytowne Wharf, a shopping, dining and family entertainment venue with dozens of specialty stores and restaurants. It has a pet friendly atmosphere with a number of places where dogs are welcome, such as Hammerhead’s Bar and Grille, (850-351-1997. This waterfront restaurant offers a full doggy menu with hot dogs, burgers, even a 20-ounce steak “for the doggie with a big appetite.” There’s also Kibble & Bits for the “no people food” doggy.
These are just a few of the dog friendly restaurants in Destin that we’ve found, but there may be more.
Places to eat where you can take your pet aren't always easy to find, so we like to add to the list whenever we can. If you know of a dog friendly restaurant that we missed, you can help other pet owners by writing your own review here.
