This is more of a search for who this might have been...
A friend of my father at one time owned the Barkley House and invited me to visit. While we were sitting in the back area, I saw a small girl in the corner nearer the bay in the open area under the back. I got the impression of fright, or hiding but not sure if the girl was a slave or not, or even if she was attached to the household.
I was told of a person who said he experienced Andrew Jackson and his men on the site, but can not verify historically whether or not Jackson's men ever camped on the property.
Editor: Wow, that's interesting. Did you ever go back and see the girl again? Did you ever heard any stories about here? Hey, Explorers, does anyone know if this site was ever visited by Andrew Jackson and his troops? It is known that he crossed the region in the early 1800s. Thanks, Bunny.
